What is a dropside?

A flat bed with sides that get out of the way.

Because the side panels drop flat, a dropside offers excellent flexibility for wide or oversized items, and it's often the preferred choice where frequent loading and unloading happens throughout the day.
Some models also offer removable posts, ladder racks and heavy-duty tie-down points, helping you secure loads safely and adapt the vehicle to your work.

Who it suits

For loads that were never going through a side door.

Builders and merchants

Palletised stock, blocks and bagged material, loaded by forklift straight onto the bed rather than wheeled in through a rear door.

Timber and plant hire

Long, wide or awkward loads that simply won't fit inside a panel van, secured with posts and tie-down points.

Events and installation teams

Kit that needs to come off quickly at the other end, from any side, often in a tight loading window.

How to choose the right dropside

A few decisions up front get you the correct configuration for your work.

Payload requirement

Choose a chassis and bed design that matches what you carry. Heavy-duty steel beds suit construction materials and equipment.

Bed material

Lightweight aluminium beds increase payload and suit landscaping, events, or general transport where every kilo counts.

Cab style

Single cab gives the longest possible bed for maximum load capacity. Crew cab is ideal when transporting staff and tools to site.

Load type

Consider the shape, size and weight of what you carry. Removable corner posts, reinforced floors and multiple tie-down points make securing loads much easier.

    Choose your contract length and annual mileage allowance to suit the work.

    Pay a fixed monthly cost

    One known figure throughout the agreement, without tying up capital in a purchase.

    Return or upgrade

    At the end of the lease, hand the vehicle back or move into a new model. No depreciation or resale to worry about.
